CaneSee
A smart cane that turns what's ahead of you into something you can act on.

The problem
Visually impaired users get distance and obstacles from a cane through touch alone. That's slow feedback for a fast-moving environment.
Overview
CaneSee is a smart assistive cane for visually impaired users, built as a graduation project by a six-person team spanning four engineering disciplines. My part is the software layer: a computer-vision pipeline that detects obstacles, voice recognition for hands-free control, and directional feedback that turns a detection into guidance a user can act on in real time. We presented it at the Graduation Expo.
What I personally did
- Built the computer-vision obstacle-detection pipeline
- Implemented voice recognition for hands-free interaction
- Designed the directional feedback logic that converts detections into user-facing guidance
- Worked directly with the mechanical and electrical team to integrate software with the physical cane
- Presented and demoed the system at the Graduation Expo
Outcome
- Working end-to-end prototype: detection into feedback, in real time
- Presented at the KFUPM Graduation Expo
- Shipped across 4 engineering disciplines without the software becoming the bottleneck
